The role of a police officer is one of the most diverse, challenging and varied forms of employment you're ever likely to find - which is why working as a police officer is known as "the job".

Did you know? Somewhere between 60,000 to 80,000 candidates apply to join the police service each year - but only 8% are successful. JoinTheJob.com has been designed to give you the information, advice and training you need to make sure you're one of the successful candidates!

Regardless of what stage your application has reached, this site has information which you will find useful. Use the links on the right hand side of this page to work your way through the process of applying to join.

If you have questions which aren't answered in the main site, try visiting our forum where you can look up answers to previous questions, as well as discuss your application successes or worries with other candidates.

The information here is provided free of charge, and it isn't necessary to register to use our site. However if you do register, you'll get access to more information including a really helpful downloads section where you will find guides and documents to help you on your way to your new police career. Registration is also free and just takes a few minutes - use the box at the top right of this screen.

The police recruitment process looks broadly like this:

Stage One | Application Form
Complete initial application form and submit to your chosen force.

Stage Two | Paper Sift
Applications are checked to ensure you meet the basic criteria.

Stage Three | Assessment Centre
Day is split into 2 parts. Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT) and role plays / interviews.

Stage Four | Security/Background Checks
These take place during the next stages.

Stage Five | Medical
If successful you will be required to take a force Medical Examination.

Stage Six | Fitness
If successful you will be required to take a force Fitness Test.

Stage Seven | Enrolment
You will recieve your collar number and start date.
